Children Etiquette: Don’t Punch Back – Play Harder
Basketball great Walt Frazier wrote, “I never got into any altercation on the court. Why should I? I’m not going to act with folly because someone else did something to me. When a player keeps a calm demeanor on the court, it’s easier for his ability to shine.” (The Game Within the Game, published by Hyperion, October 17, 2006)
Don’t Punch Back Play Harder is one of the themes for National Sportsmanship Day next Tuesday, March 6th. I asked the kids in my Etiquette Club to list some good sportsmanship behaviors and here are a few excerpts.
- If you’re roller skating with a friend, and you’re going fast, don’t brag about it.
- Have fun! Don’t trip and say, “I’m not playing.”
- Play nice.
- Say “good game” to someone after a sport game.
- Don’t run over someone’s toy. Be nice.
